Kluckhohn - Oh well, whatever~ (group 1,amd5pa)

through our reading of this story, we realized that we can relate what we learned in your class to the story, and how the characters suit the dimensions from Kluckhohn - strodbeck's cultural model of analysis. actually, we found it interesting as the time we study the story, we can analyze among ourselves, what types of persons we are.. he3~

so, lets cut to the chase, the story we read shows that Su Kim is from a good nature of human. we can see when Julia miscalled her name,but Su Kim accept Julia's mistake without blaming her, and smile, even in the Chinese culture, they've got meaning in their name,and name holds very important aspect in somebody's life. Su Kim's family also are past time oriented. why we're saying this is because her parents decided not to use 'Oi' name again to their baby because of previous experiences (they have lost 2 daughters) and they think that 'Oi' name brings too much badluck.

Su Kim's mother is unchangeable because she keeps the secret about late Su Kim's sister who died before Su Kim was born. She's not telling the truth until Su Kim discovered by herself. besides that,Su kim's mother can be a good example of private-space type of person, because she hide the story of Su Kim's late sisters from her ,and Su Kim never know this story until her amah, Chae Chae opened up the story. Chae Chae is really a person that cant be trusted. how can she opened up such a big secret?? this kind of person is called public-space type of person.Su Kim is doing or action person, because she quickly make a correction after julia mistakenly called her name. Even though she know Julia is american's lady and suppose to call her Su Kim but she call her as Kim Su. Su Kim trust that her name identifies herself. So, Su Kim is an action person because she just doing what she think that she supposed to do. lastly,Chae Chae is being or living person because she just let her life living in poverty. She not try to changed her life by doing the alternative way to make her life better. Luckily she become amah to Su Kim's family,and Chae Chae is changeable bcoz she has improving her life after she become amah to the Su Kim's family. She is from poor family and live in the poverty trap for along time. Su Kim's family helping her a lot to change her life becomes better because she deserves for it.

We may have exaggerating it..but it's a norm when it comes to Spanish soap operas, doesn't it?.. =D

It is true indeed that whenever we talk about Spanish soap operas, people, especially the females, will go crazy about it. If we were about to do a study upon the behavior of how these soap operas may create, we may do it based on the idea of functions of attitude and on the idea of error of perceptions. We have few types of functions of attitude; selection and organization, expression of values and reconciling contradictions. As for error of perception, we have few types of it too; stereotyping, halo effect and projection.


Let’s see how do functions of attitude had to do with the issue of Spanish soap fever. Talking about selection and organization, literally, it provides a basis for the interpretation and classification of new information. Whether you are working or not, you might have to select which drama you are going to watch since you don’t have all day to watch every drama that they have screened. Then, you ought to organize it according to the schedule perfectly. The expression of values on the other hand, applies when the audience value the Spanish soap opera filled with beautiful stars, good looking actors and without them people, the soap opera wouldn’t be very interesting to watch after all. When we say reconciling contradiction, there are few contradictions made, for example, it’s ok to watch television when it comes to these melodramas and the reason is because they get to pick up a smattering of Spanish, even few words. Very much contradicting with the idea of “stuck in front of the television is not good”, we believe.


Let’s move on to the second idea which is on the error of perception. Stereotyping is one of it. The audience tends to being stereotype upon the characters for example, the male protagonist are mostly portrayed as full of flaws and etc. This issue too has created halo effect amongst the society due to the reason that this Spanish soap fever or addiction started by Maria Mercedes three years ago, followed by other dramas, continuously. Not only that, projection too, happened when we have a propensity to react towards certain part of the drama, we tends to overreact when the heroin is being harshly dumped by the hero, mostly. I guess it’s a pretty normal thing and we should give credits to the actors for putting up a good act.. =)

After ASCAP’S general meeting, our group had made discussion about our first assignment, which is Organizational Behaviours.

Yasmien: Hey! Come here right now. It’s already 11 o’clock. We had to discuss about our assignment now.

After half an hour, all the team members come to the MPP’s meeting room to discuss.

Nashriq: Relax bro! Night is still young. This is a very simple assignment and even I can do it alone.

Haziman: Don’t be so individualistic. Actually we should portrayed collectivism spirit.

Rubiatul: Had you read about the article given by Miss Fisha just now?

Anira: Ouh. I had read a lot about the article. Its s bit difficult to understand.

Yasmien: Yeah, i read a bit too. I noticed a clear considerable statement that can relate to Hofstede’s Model which is weak uncertainty avoidance in this article.

Amin: Yeah, i attracted to story about Jan Meng, a writer’s son, when he met dentist to polish his teeth, he was given a lot of choices like strawberry, chocolate, mint and many more.

Haziman: If i were in Jan Meng’s position, i would prefer to polish my teeth with banana flavour. Yummy! hahaha

Nashriq: Actually, the choices system can be related to weak uncertainty avoidance because we can see a lot of competition among different brands to serve for the best.

Yasmien: I totally agreed with you.

Rubiatul: Guys, I found a new point in this article. It much related to the short term orientation. Look at the third paragraph in that article.

Yasmien: Yeah, it’s true. The statement pictures that the coupon culture is still use even we are already in globalization era.

Anira: Yeah. Please refer to the article, the coupon culture is terrible wastage paper because much tree has been cut down in order to generate horrendous amount of paper.

Amin: The coupon culture also been applied at our hostel’s dining. We can see that over the semester, some of the students throw away the coupon easily because the coupon image invaluable after being used.

Nashriq: Yeah. I agree with your explanation. The coupon culture is a traditional way.

Rubiatul: Wow, it’s already 1.45 a.m. and we are late already.

Anira: Yeah, i bet my roommates are worrying about me. Hahaha

In the blind morning,after elephant dawn,I feel so sleepy then I continue my dream..Dreaming of Megan Fox lol!!Suddenly,Kring!!!Opss!!I'm late.I'm rushing to my car. A piece of bread is only my breakfast. While waiting my CLK(CUte little Kancil) warming up,suddenly Siti call.TUt....HUrry up,Im rushing to take my chubby girl!WHen I reach there,her face become sour.Do u smell?...Oops!Hehehe.On the way to go to the office,arggh!!!Traffic jam!I look at my girlfriend's face with the red eyes.Hey,you!Always late!This is Malaysia lol.She startedl to mumblel.There are bubbles in my mouth telling you..hmm...let me tell you a story. When megasale come,many people go for shopping.During this time, road definitely busy and parkings are very limited.At that time,Tiqa and Rain try to find a parking.Suddenly,they noticed that one car seems like to when out but with the slumber face he lock the door and just go like that.At least he can raise up his hand that he actually not when out so we do not need to wait.Tension.When we are looking for other parking other people suddenly take that parking.Very rude lol...It's !@#$% people!Arghh..!

This is my sister(Wani)experienced about irresponsible driver attitude in Malaysia,if we see at school area parent who took their children simply parking their car in front of other people home. It's hard for them to go out and in. Double parking is one other matter.It's okay for minutes but not hours!!!From this story and experienced we can see attitude is important to show who we are.People see more the bad thing rather than the good thing.So,once we show the bad attitude forever people will remember that. Once Malaysian did their bad attitude it will effect others.

When we want to find a parking lot,most of us always take other people parking although they already now that other people are waiting behind.When there is a bread lorry we definitely see they park their lorry wherever they want and never think that road is busy.Is that our country do not have law??Hmm..definitely stereotype!Another matter when rich people in Malaysia, mentang2 la they have big car they simply park their car everywhere. When other people hit their car they know to feel angry.Serve him right!!!hahaha..They think other people will care their car.Who cares?!!Imagine if the driver is a fresh driver confirm,he or she will hit that car.Huh..I think I've study this is that perception error??What is that huh?Haa..Projection!!

THE POWER OF DURIAN

On a one peaceful evening, sit 4 friends who are eating durian under a signboard return "no durian is allowed". Suddenly another 2 friends, Farrel and Joe come and join them.
"Hey girls, what's up?" said both of them. Then Rozy said, "makan la! Then what? Are we swimming????? ha3...... "Oh my God! when i see ou guys eating durian, i remembered that i've been given a task by my lecturer to study this confused, terrible and weird article".. said farrel with full of disgust. "What is it about?" said Rozy. "The tittle is The #^*)?@## Durian", reply Farrel. "Oh that one? I hate that article too! The author is very arrogant because she mentioned she was in line with politician, bankers, CEO's and others", said Rozy with whispering. "Excuse me, who in the world is that author?" said Mary confusingly. "Arrrghhhh, even if i tell you, you won't know, because you never read". hahaha...

Moreover Rozy says, she is very stubborn and will still hold with her believe where the durian is flavours of the gorgeous yellow flesh. Why did she said so because she try to proved that durian is the king of fruit in her country to the chinese man who lived in the US. And what is more worst, was that, this one idiot american journalist wrote that "to eat it, seems to be the sacrifice of self respect". However, at the end of the story, the author bought a damage durian in Texas where she lived. It was one wet sloppy quivering mess.

"Wow thats really help me...", thanks farrel to Rozy. "Well you know me... I'm Einstein's daughter...hahahaha. Hey! Where's my durian?".. Muttered Rozy. Suddenly, a choking sounds heard among them. " Ya Allah... sheryl is choking!!!!!....................... This is really the power of durian means which not only at its torn and fleshes but also on its seed......"

Come back for what you may ask. As part of tradition I started few semesters back, this semester is not an exception. Thus, this blog says it all.

Why resorting to blog?

Well, don’t you think ordinary presentation and report writing CUM information compilation for your course instructor AKA copy-paste are so 2000 late? Even though the same copy paste activities might happen when blogging, for me it still bearable since blog can be accessed from every corner of the world.

Thus, if you conveniently blogging any entry which is pasted from any sources but never give due credit to the source, readers might trace your crime of intellectual property. Got it?

Ermmm .. another thing … but please don’t tell anyone - the real reason for this is to save myself from boredom reading their ever copy-paste assignment! And, now I relieved my burden (of boredom) to you, too! Hehehe … evil: evil: evil:

I don’t feel like discussing what the positive effect of doing this. It is up to them to think by their own. But, deep down I do hope that they will benefit something from this kind of exercise. If they get more than I hope, it will be bonus for them.

Point being, it is an effort to make them think out loud what they have inside their minds. They may not actively participate in class for some understandable reasons. So, this is good avenue for them to channel their wandering minds' output.

Never mind all the grammatical concerns (my grammar also rusty!). It is their thoughts and ideas that matter. At least they proved that their brain is working.
